One of my biggest fears in life is drowning. I learned to swim at a young age, but I still have this fear that I just cannot shake. We decided to enroll Brooklyn in swim lessons once she turned one! We thought it would be a fun family activity and hopefully teach her to love the water!
Charlie’s friend from back home started Goldfish Swim School with his family – so when we found out there was a location near us in Roscoe Village, we jumped at the opportunity to enroll Brooklyn there. Class was 8 weeks long and only once a week; we were able to easily fit it into our busy schedules.
The classes are great! They are 30 min long and small so each student gets attention from the teacher at all times. One parent goes in the water with the child (when they are young – as they get older, they don’t need a parent in the water anymore) and the other can wait outside and watch. There is a wall of windows dividing the pool from the waiting area, which has many comfortable chairs & tables.
The kids do fun activities in the water – like swimming with kickboards, going down a slide, grabbing toys and putting them back in the bucket, having water poured over their head and more!
The facilities at Goldfish Swim are amazing. There are showers, soap, fresh diapers, wipes, hair dryers, changing tables, lockers and more! We usually bring a change of clothes for Brooklyn and bring her wet suit home in our reusable Goldfish Swim bag we got on our first day.
Goldfish has 12 locations throughout Chicagoland area, and they offer swim lessons for children ages four months to 12. It’s also a great gift idea if you’re looking for a fun activity to gift instead of a toy this year!
