We celebrated Brooklyn’s first birthday at the cutest little bakery in Lincoln Park called By The Park. We had about 50 of our closest friends and family there, including Brooklyn’s great grandma, GiGi! If you follow my pinterest boards, you know that I have been planning this party since Brooklyn was about 6 months old. I booked the venue in March after I saw another party there on instagram. The theme was Brooklyn’s Blooms, and everything was floral! I went with a color scheme of peach, blush, grey and added in some greenery.
For food, we had the cutest french baguette sandwiches from Toni’s Patisserie. We had 3 different types of sandwiches (turkey, veggie and brie/green apple) and each sandwich was wrapped in the cutest white paper. They reminded me of the sandwiches we got while we were in Paris a few years ago. I have a mild obsession with acai bowls, so naturally had to incorporate those somehow. We had mini-acai bowls from GRAZE-CHICAGO and they were a hit! Brooklyn also loves these. GRAZE-CHICAGO has 2 spots in Chicago – Studio Three & Revival Food Hall (I’m partial to this one because it’s so close to my office).
For dessert, we had a few types of mini cookies that Isabel, the owner of By The Park baked for us. My favorite was the pumpkin chocolate chip! She also made us an egg free smash cake for Brooklyn, along some cake pops.
We also had french macarons. I met Gabrielle through one of my instructors at Shred415 – she owns Abbi Alexandra! She literally paints the most beautiful designs on the macarons by hand – i’ve never seen anything like it. My favorite flavors are birthday cake, deep dark chocolate and espresso. If you’re looking for a treat for a shower, birthday or wedding, you must check her out.
We’ve been calling Brooklyn “Brookie Cookie” and “Cookie Monster” since she was born, so I wanted to incorporate this somehow since the party was at a bakery! My mom and I spent hours making 36 mason jars filled with a cookie recipe. I wrapped each one in rose gold twine at the top and attached a tag that said “Brookie’s Cookies” and the recipe was on the back. They were a huge hit!
Because neither Charlie or I have family in Chicago, it was important to us to make sure we remembered this day as both of our families would be together to celebrate Brooklyn. I had Rachael with Little Dumpling Photography there to capture the day. We used her for Brooklyn’s 6 month pics too and couldn’t have been happier!
